Hug a mom this Christmas season

As a mom, it is so easy to get overwhelmed. As a pregnant mom with a willful almost 1-year-old, overwhelmed is a near-constant state.

Juggling a full time job, housework, meeting the needs of a small child and other extra curriculars, there is little time left for yourself.

Things like applying makeup, taking a relaxing bath and doing my nails are so far from my mind these days. In fact, I am truly impressed by the busy moms I know that keep up with their 9-5 while looking flawless.

On the other hand, I have that untamable postpartum hair, blotchy dry skin and I probably look like I only got a few hours of sleep. My outfit of choice is sweatpants and stretchy jeans. This look is brought to you in part by a lack of time and zero energy.

This time of year getting run-down is extra difficult when your little one brings home every germ and virus from daycare. Getting the sniffles makes the rest of your job as a parent that much harder.

I think every mom gets to this stage of burnout once in a while – at least, that’s what I tell myself. It is really hard to ask your partner for help and take the time you need. Also, giving yourself grace and acknowledging that you are doing a good job, is the single hardest thing to do.

All of the above are reasons why stress levels are so high for moms in the weeks before Christmas. We love the holidays and spreading the joy to our children and families. But frankly, we’re tired and in need of dark chocolate.

So to all the moms out there trying to keep their babies happy and their heads above water – I see you. You’re doing great. Take that bubble bath, get a manicure, pour yourself a glass of wine (if you’re able to), and recharge.
